Vigilant is a monitoring tool for the web which tracks the critical aspects of any website and notifies when you want it to. One of the aspects that makes Vigilant different is that it is open source software. Let's take a look at what that means.

By being open source it means that the source code of the self hosted version of Vigilant is available and accessible on GitHub. Anyone can check it out, read it, inspect it and review how it works.

This gives transparency on how Vigilant handles your data to make it more trustworthy than proprietary and closed source alternatives.

Vigilant's source code is released under the AGPL license. This license maximizes user freedom and encourages to contribute to open source.

Because of this it is also possible to self-host Vigilant for complete control over your data. Note that the self hosted version is meant for community / personal usage and does not include some features like teams. All the monitoring tools are available.
