Vigilant reached 100 stars on Github!
Vigilant has reached 100 stars after 15 months on Github 🎉
In this article I share the road towards 100 stars.
Back in February of 2024 I started working on a new project, a website monitoring tool that monitors every aspect of a website, not just uptime and the certificate. I had decided to build it open source and make it self hostable as I really like open source software and I enjoy self hosting too.
The first six months I've focussed on developing the core of the application, I've built a simple uptime monitor as MVP and then put the components around it such as notifications. I wrote my first blog post introducing Vigilant in May 2024 but was hesitant to share it online because the project wasn't stable or finished.
Gaining some traction
In September I had made the project ready to be self hostable. I wrote a few articles and shared them and the project got some traction which brought the project to 35 stars. This motivated me a lot to continue as there were people who found Vigilant interesting.
Between October and the end of the year I did not work much on Vigilant for various reasons but I picked it back up in January. In April 2025 the first big milestone came, the first release of Vigilant. That release marked a major step forward in the project as it was finally production-ready. It brought the stars up to 95.
In May 2025, another small push and it hit a milestone I’m incredibly proud of: 🎉 100 stars on GitHub.

More numbers
I’ve been tracking a few metrics to see how the project is growing. Here's a snapshot from the past several months:
August 2024 | September 2024 | April 2025 | May 2025 | |
Stars | 0 | 35 | 95 | 100 |
Website Visitors | 0 | 2310 | 6587 | 8367 |
Pull Requests | 0 | 1 | 39 | 41 |
Downloads | 68 | 156 | 598 | 607 |
The Future
First of all I want to thank everyone who starred the repo, opened an issue or was active on the Discord. You're helping this project grow into what it should be.
I've put up a roadmap of features that I'd like to implement in the future.
Final Thoughts
Building something from scratch, watching it grow, and seeing even a few people use and appreciate it, that’s incredibly rewarding. Hitting 100 stars isn’t just a number. It’s a signal that people care and that’s all the motivation I need to keep going.
